Mkhitaryan talked about his quarrel with Mourinho during his time at Manchester United in his new book.
Despite being one of Mourinho's first signings after taking charge of Old Trafford, the Portuguese coach seems to have always had a low opinion of Mkhitaryan.
Mkhitaryan left Manchester United after only 18 months of service. He joined Arsenal in exchange and exchanged clubs with Sanchez. In a new book released in Italy, the Inter Milan star details his stunning final months at Manchester United.
He wrote about Mourinho in the book: "I told him that you have been criticizing me for a year and a half, since I first arrived at Manchester United."
"Mourinho said that I was 'not as good as shit,' and I exploded immediately. 'You are shit. Big shit.'"
"Mourinho replied: "Get out, I never want to see you again." '"
"The coach said nothing to me, maintained a religious silence, but every night he messaged me via WhatsApp and said, 'Mkhitaryan, please leave.'"
"The situation has become ridiculous every time I reply with the same copy and paste: I will leave if I find the right team, otherwise I will. Will wait until summer. "
"By mid-January, the content of the message changed slightly, and what he said became: 'Mkhitaryan, please leave so I can get Sanchez. '"
"Raiola was running the swap deal with Arsenal at the time, so my reply also changed. I said ‘I’m not leaving just to do you a favor and please stop messaging me. If necessary, please talk to Raiola. ’”
Mkhitaryan later jokingly wrote: “Everyone lived happily ever after. "
Sanchez's experience at Manchester United was a complete disaster. The Chilean player only scored 5 goals in 45 appearances for the Red Devils. His form is far from what it used to be, and his weekly salary is as high as nearly 450,000 pounds.
Ironically, the two reunited when Mourinho took charge of Roma in 2021. They initially resolved their differences, with Mourinho saying in 2022: "What makes me happy is that at first people were negative and they tried to say 'Mkhitaryan and Mourinho have no chance together, Mourinho is the kind of person who never gets back together once something goes wrong'."
"It turned out to be true. On the contrary, we were very mature and very honest with each other."
"I'm very happy for him and I'm also happy that people understand that for me, things are not black and white."
Mkhitaryan joined Inter Milan on a free transfer later that year, a move that reportedly left Mourinho furious.
