Volunteers from the Stray Animal Protection Association received a rescue request: A kind-hearted person found a pregnant stray cat near his home and requested volunteers from the association to assist in the rescue.
According to well-intentioned people, this stray cat has been wandering in this area for a long time. The appearance of the stray cat is not bad. It may be a British short blue cat, but its limbs are very thin and its hair is very dry and rough due to its years of wandering.
The strange thing is that every time good-hearted people see this cat, its belly is very big, as if it is pregnant.
A normal cat is only pregnant for two months. I have seen this cat at least 10 times in a year, and every time I see it, it has a big belly. This cat is a breed cat. Is someone using it for breeding?
Good-hearted people expressed their concerns when asking for help.
Ms. Wang, a volunteer of the Stray Animal Protection Association, immediately found the pregnant stray cat based on the location provided by a kind person after receiving the rescue request. Just like what the kindhearted people said, the cat’s belly was very big, and it looked like she was about to give birth.
Neighbors nearby told Ms. Wang that this stray cat has been wandering in this area for more than three years and relies on everyone's feeding to survive. The enlargement of the belly should have started in June last year. It has been almost a year now and has not given birth. I don't know what happened.
Have you been pregnant for almost a year? How could it take so long to get pregnant! Volunteer Ms. Wang knew something was wrong as soon as she heard it. So we immediately decided to capture and rescue the stray blue cats.
The trapping went smoothly. The stray blue cat got into the cage without any resistance. Ms. Wang quickly took the cat to the hospital for examination. When she saw the results of the B-ultrasound examination of the stray blue cat, Ms. Wang, a volunteer, was shocked. The belly of the stray blue cat was full of pus.
The final result of the cat’s examination was: pyometra + uterine distortion caused severe inflammation of the abdominal cavity, which had caused a belly full of ascites. The situation was quite serious. It can be said that if surgical treatment was not carried out in time, the cat would really die.
It is hard to imagine that this cat had to survive for a year with a belly full of pyometra and ascites. Fortunately, the operation went very smoothly in the end, and the stray blue cat finally survived with difficulty after being tortured by the disease for a year.
The main reason why cats develop pyometra is that they have not been neutered. However, there are still many people who stubbornly believe that neutering cats is a hypocritical act by humans and is an unacceptable cruelty. No one can influence everyone's thoughts, I just hope everyone can see the advantages of sterilization.
1. Reduce the chance of disease
The physiological structure of cats is completely different from that of humans. The special structure of the vagina of female cats walking on all fours will cause secretions to reflux and prevent them from being discharged normally for a long time. As a result, the natural incidence rate of genital diseases such as pyometra and uterine fibroids is extremely high, and sterilization can effectively reduce the incidence rate of reproductive diseases in cats.
2. Reduce the probability of getting lost
Whether it is a male cat or a female cat, they will not stay quiet during the estrus period. They will think of ways to go out every day. If the cat owner does not pay attention to it, or is negligent, the cat has a high probability of getting lost, and sterilized cats will be much more honest.
3. Reduce abnormal behaviors
We all know that cats will have abnormal behaviors such as howling in the middle of the night and spraying urine during the estrus period. This is due to the estrus behavior caused by the stimulation of sex hormones. By neutering the cat, such abnormal behaviors can be controlled.
4. Change the cat’s personality
A cat that has been neutered will be more docile and clingy, and will get along more harmoniously with its owner. If you have a multi-cat household, neutering can also reduce fighting between cats.
5. Control the number of stray cats
Sterilizing stray cats can effectively control the number of stray cats in the area. Some cat owners have many cats in their homes but do not neuter them, resulting in an overpopulation of kittens that cannot be sent out. In the end, society has to bear the consequences.
Keeping a cat is a very personal matter, and there has never been a clear statement on whether neutering should be performed. But for now, sterilization is definitely an option worth advocating. Finally, I hope everyone will think carefully before deciding to raise a pet. Since they have adopted a pet, they must bear this responsibility to the end. They cannot abandon them just because they don’t like them or they are sick. Don’t let the tragedy of the stray blue cat in the previous article happen again and again.
